Campbell, Hope break 20 years old batting record

Campbell and Hope broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid who shared 331 runs against New Zealand way back in 1999

Dublin: West Indies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope scripted history against Ireland as the duo smashed the record of highest ever opening stand in One-Day-International cricket on Sunday.

The duo shared a breathtaking 365 runs partnership for the opening wicket, and in the process, they broke the previous record held by Pakistani pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq who scored 304 runs in 2018 against Zimbabwe.

The stand between Campbell and Hope is also the second highest partnership in ODIs for any wicket. The duo missed the record of highest ever partnership in any wicket by 7 runs. The record of highest ever ODI partnership is held by their teammates Chirs Gayle and Marlon Samuels who built 372 runs 2nd wicket partnership against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup.

Campbell and Hope, however, broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid who shared 331 runs against New Zealand way back in 1999. It also the first time in the limited overs cricket that two batsmen from the same team has scored more than 170 runs.

There is another first in West Indies cricket as their opening batsmen have hit centuries in the same innings while sharing the record first wicket partnership.

Campbell scored 179 runs while wicketkeeper-batsman Hope scored 170 runs. West Indies posted a mammoth total of 381 runs for three wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Dublin: West Indies openers Shai Hope and John Campbell scripted history against Ireland in Dublin in the first ODI of the ongoing tri-nation series at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, here, on Sunday. The tri-nation series also included Bangladesh. 



The duo added a breathtaking 365 runs stand for the opening wickets as West Indies posted a mammoth total of 381 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 50 overs. It also the first time in the limited overs cricket that both the opening pairs have crossed the mark 170 runs in their partnership. 



This is also the first time in the history of West Indies cricket that their opening pairs have scored a century. The 365 run stand between Hope and Campbell is also the second highest partnership in ODI for any wicket. 



Hope and Campbell surpassed the record of Pakistani pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. The Pakistani duo has scored 304 runs fir the first wicket against Zimbabwe in 2018.
