New Delhi: Legend in the making and India's former skipper Virat Kohli has been inching closer to legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record 49 hundred in the ODI format, and he said breaking the record of his childhood idol would be an "emotional moment" for him.
Tendulkar has 49 ODI hundreds, and his 100th century was his last until he was playing. His longevity and knack to score hundreds were once thought to go unbroken but Kohli, having completed his 46th so far in 274 matches is only three centuries shy of Tendulkar's record. "It will be a very emotional moment for me," Kohli said when asked about his thoughts on reaching the milestone during an event here.

Kohli also laid the importance of sports as he shared his childhood memories of playing cricket with older boys in order to improve his game. "Sports teaches you some values of life, discipline and planning. It opens up your side, making you a productive person. No matter which profession you are in, the value of playing sport is immense," he said.
He said as much as playing a sport can be important, it's even more crucial for students to understand the value of the game and how it can impact one's life in a positive way. "Don't make them [students] just play sports, teach them. It is important to teach them small details of what it means to play a sport, Kohli adds as he further recalls the incident that took off the pressure of studies from him when his school's vice principal advised him to religiously follow cricket."
Yuvraj Singh, MC Mary Kom, Chhetri, Harmanpreet Kaur and para-athlete Avani Lekhara were present at the event where Kohli shared his journey.
