TV show Hamari Bahu Silk team threatens to commit suicide over non-payment of dues

Television actor Zaan Khan took to Instagram amplify the voice of the cast and crew of his Zee TV show Humari Bahu Silk. According to Zaan, the crew has not been paid by the producers and is now threatening to commit suicide.

Mumbai: Zaan Khan, a TV actor, who was seen in Zee TV’s Hamari Bahu Silk, resorted to social media to make the plight of his team from the show being heard. On Sunday, Khan addressed the issue of non-payment of dues by the show's maker and how they have been kept waiting for the show which got wrapped up in November last year.

Humari Bahu Silk started airing in 2019 and wrapped up after just five months on November 8, last year. However, the cast and crew of the show are yet to receive their payment which is due for several months.

Zaan, who played the lead role in the show, took to Instagram to highlight the issue. “It’s sad and shocking to know that team #HumariBahuSilk has not been paid till date!! Also, the actors and technicians are threatening to commit suicide!! Why does this happen all the time!! Why can’t Broadcasts do something!! #ZeeTV #ZaanKhan @zeetv @zaan001,” he captioned a picture of him and his co-star from the show, Chahat Pandey.

He has also been sharing the videos of his colleagues from the show on his social media handle. In one such video, a makeup artist named Sohan Kumar is seen saying how he has to beg for his own money even after months of the show getting off-air.

The makeup artist also said that in the times of coronavirus-induced lockdown he even contemplated committing suicide due to financial crunch. Sohan is not the only one who is demanding the due since last June. Zaan's feed has more than fifteen team members from Hamari Bahu Silk who too are yet to receive their payments.

In his post, Zaan has also asked ZEE, the broadcaster of the show if they can intervene to resolve the issue. However, it is not clear if the GEC channel has responded to the actor's request.

In the show, Zaan played the role of a Gujarati man who is very passionate about photography, but his family conditions are such that his grandmother wants him to continue with the family business.
