Los Angeles: Robert De Niro says to get an Oscar nomination for The Irishman is "icing on the cake" to the experience of making the film. The movie is up for 10 awards including best picture, best director for Martin Scorsese and best supporting actor for Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.
"It was with Al (Pacino) and Joe (Pesci) and myself, Marty (Scorsese) directing us. That was just great that we actually had it done," said the actor on January 27, at the annual Oscar nominees luncheon.
De Niro has won two Oscars, one for best supporting actor for The Godfather Part II and the other for best actor for his work in Raging Bull in 1981.
For his first win, he wasn't able to attend the ceremony.

"I was shooting 1900 with (Bernardo) Bertolucci in Italy, so I got a call in the morning about 6 o'clock, a landline call and that was it," he recalled.
The Oscars will be handed out Feb. 9.
On a related note, De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Scorsese's upcoming film, Killers Of The Flower Moon.
The two stars have teamed up with Scorsese several times individually, and appeared in Scorsese's 2015 short film The Audition, playing fictionalised versions of themselves. This will be the first time that the actors co-star in feature film directed by Scorsese.
