Los Angeles: Robert De Niro, who received a lifetime achievement award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards here on Sunday, reacts on being overlooked by the Oscars this year.
The 76-year-old said the award is "a great honor."
Asked what he hopes his life's work has done for the craft of acting, De Niro said he hopes he has "set a good example for actors, young actors, people in general, (and) fans."
De Niro, who has previously won Oscars for The Godfather Part II and Raging Bull, was last nominated for the biggest award in Hollywood for Silver Linings Playbook.
While Director Martin Scorsese and his Irishman co-stars got Oscar nods, De Niro didn't.

At the silver carpet of SAG award gala, De Niro said he's just "so happy that the movie got so much attention."
"And all the other people who were nominated in the movie, my fellow actors, Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, and Marty getting the director and the movie itself -- that's all great," he said. "I'm one of the producers and I'm very proud of it."
When asked about De Niro being overlooked by the Oscars this year, fellow Hollywood legend Alan Arkin quipped: "He hasn't been overlooked for 10 minutes in this life."
"I think he has nothing to feel sorry about," said Arkin, 85.
