Anaheim: Jon Favreau, who appeared alongside Tom Holland in two Spider-Man movies, says he's "holding out hope" the actor can return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney and Sony, which holds the film rights to the character, have reportedly been unable to reach a co-production deal on future films.

"Well I love being in all the Marvel movies, being involved with the Marvel movies, directing the Marvel movies, and loved being included in what's going on with the Spider-Man films -- with Homecoming and Far From Home," Favreau said on Friday at the D23 Expo in California.

Jon also said that he like every fan of the universes that Disney, Sony and Marvel bring on screen is hoping that "this isn't the final chapter of that conversation because I know everybody would love to see those characters together again."

Favreau was honored as a Disney Legend at the Disney convention, which is held every two years. Others getting the honor Friday included Robert Downey Jr., who Favreau directed in 2008's Iron Man.

Jon who has a lot of collaborations with Disney said that it's very flattering that the studio giant thought of his name to be included among the Disney Legends.

"To be coming off of the release of Lion King and The Jungle Book and then all the Marvel stuff and then working on The Mandalorian for Lucasfilm, I have a lot of collaborations with Disney Studios. So it's very flattering that they think enough of me to include me," he said.

The Mandalorian is among the most high-profile offerings from Disney's streaming service, Disney-plus, which launches in November. Favreau created it and is now working on ideas for the second season. The series is set in the Star Wars universe some time after the events of The Return of the Jedi.
