Cannes 2021: Spike Lee, Salma Hayek and others attend event to support women in film

Amidst the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, celebrities like Spike Lee, Salma Hayek, Maggie Gyllenhaal and others attended the castle party to support women in film on Sunday. Kering's Women In Motion Awards dinner invited the Cannes jury for party, giving them a few hours away from watching the 24 movies they will be judging this year.

Cannes: A medieval castle in the old town, overlooking Cannes Film Festival, was the location for Sunday's evening edition of glamor and glitz on the French Riviera. Kering's Women In Motion Awards dinner invited the jury for party, giving them a few hours away from watching the 24 movies they will be judging this year.

Spike Lee with his wife Tonya Lewis Lee attended – while he stayed tight-lipped on the films they've been judging, he celebrated being back in the cinema. And said that the festival was still taking the pandemic seriously. "We still have to be careful with the with the variants you know, we've got to be careful, you know, be vigilant."

A thought echoed by juror Maggie Gyllenhaal. She admitted she watched three films Sunday and was delighted to be supporting female filmmaking at the event. "It's exciting. I think women make movies differently than men do. And I think the more we support them, the more interesting stories we're going to see."

Also attending were jury members Tahar Rahim, Jessica Hausner, Song Kang Ho, Melanie Laurent and Mati Diop. Other stars at the lantern-lit party in the old town were Salma Hayek, Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent) star Nicolas Maury – who is head of the Queer Palm honor - and Noomi Rapace.

The Cannes Film Festival runs until Saturday 17 July.
