Mumbai: Taapsee Pannu's latest release Thappad witnesses a weak start at the box office. The Anubhav Sinha directorial collects ₹ 3.07 cr. on its first day.
According to the trade reports, Thappad started on a low note in the morning shows but gathered speed noon onwards. The film is being lapped up by the metros, especially Delhi and NCR where it registered healthy growth towards evening and night shows.
Starting her career as a commercial actress in south Indian films, Taapsee made her debut in Bollywood with David Dhawan's 2013 film Chashme Baddoor. Her image as a heroine of content-driven cinema would only be cemented with Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's 2016 film, Pink.

WATCH | Public Review: Taapsee's Thappad bashes society's hypocrisy
She returned with her most accomplished acting till date, in Thappad. In the film, she plays a homemmaker whose picture-perfect life is jolted when her husband slaps her at a house party. The film questions male entitlement of superiority in a relationship and how it is noramalised in our culture and society.
This is the second time she is collaborating with Anubhav Sinha after Mulk.
Besides Taapsee, Thappad also stars Pavail Gulati, Kumud Mishra, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Maya Sarao, Dia Mirza, Manav Kaul in pivotal roles.
