Hyderabad: Tamil superstar Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru is among the top three movies on IMDb. The Tamil language film is a fictionalised account of the life of Captain GR Gopinath, who founded the low-cost airline, Air Deccan.

The film was selected for Oscars 2021 under multiple categories. It emerged as the only Indian film amongst 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the Academy Awards. Unfortunately, on March 15, it was announced that the is officially out of Oscars race. Soorarai Pottru also got selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Award.
The film is a fictionalised account of the life of GR Gopinath, founder of the low cost airline Air Deccan. Soorarai Pottru was the first big Tamil film to take OTT route over the idea of waiting for a theatrical release last year and premiered on November 12 on Amazon Prime Video. Helmed by director Sudha Kongara, the film also featured Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles.
