Mumbai: Dil Bechara actor Sanjana Sanghi has clapped back to Kangana Ranaut who accused her of 'taking her own sweet time’ to brush away the #MeToo allegations placed on Sushant Singh Rajput.
On July 22, the Twitter account of Kangana’s team had questioned Sanjana’s delayed response to rumours of harassment that had surfaced against Sushant in 2018.
In a promotional interview for her debut film Dil Bechara, Sanjana responded to allegations levelled against her by Kangana and said ‘nobody has the authority’ to judge if her response was fast enough or not.
"I have said more than enough about what happened. Also, I’ve given a clarification which should have been enough. At that time, it wasn’t late, nobody is in authority to decide what’s late and what’s not. You don’t fuel rumours. It is not the responsibility or job to clarify rumours,” Sanjana said in an interview.
Sanjana who has studied journalism at Delhi University said that the rumours based reportage did not make any sense to her and reports of harassment on Dil Bechara sets was refuted by both involved.
"I am a student of journalism, I’ve studied at Delhi University and that’s not the journalism I was taught. So, I don’t see it as the Me Too movement. For me, apparently getting late in giving clarification for rumours, but I did it still because it was important for us, Sushant and me," she said.
Meanwhile, Sushant's last and Sanjana's first, Dil Bechara, digitally premiered worldwide on Friday evening. Hours before the film launched, Sanjana paid a tribute to Sushant.
Referring to Sushant as Manny, his screen name in the film, Sanjana wrote on her verified Instagram account: "My Manny, I hope you're looking over us, blessing us, and smiling upon us as we are, looking up at you, searching for you, in equal parts awe and disbelief."
The film marks casting director Mukesh Chhabra's debut as director. It also features Saswata Chatterjee, Sahil Vaid, Swastika Mukherjee, Milind Gunaji and Saif Ali Khan.
