Deepika opens up on 'most ambitious project' Mahabharat

Deepika Padukone, who will be featuring and co-producing Mahabharat, said that the film is "most ambitious project" of her career so far. She also said that the execution and scale of the mythology drama is not like making any other film.

Mumbai: Deepika Padukone will play the central character in Mahabharat which is set to be made from Draupadi's point of view is known. The actor who is currently holidaying with husband Ranveer Singh on an unrevealed location said that the film is her most ambitious project so far.

For the mythology drama, Deepika has teamed up with producer Madhu Mantena and will be co-producing the film too. Mahabharat, will be seen through the eyes of Draupadi which will give a fresh take on the mythological tale.

Before heading for the vacation, Deepika in an interview with a leading daily spoke about what would be her approach and process for making the mega project.

“Making the Mahabharat is not like making any other film. From the scale of production to the budget and costumes, it will take five times longer to execute. I cannot turn it around in a short time frame. It is my most ambitious project. After a lot of thought. I was busy with Chhapaak promotions, so there was no time to sit down and discuss [this film]. We have yet to ascertain the cast and crew,” the daily quoted Deepika as saying.

At the time of film's announcement, Deepika had said that playing Draupadi is the "role of a lifetime."

"I'm absolutely thrilled and honoured to be essaying the role of Draupadi. I truly believe that it is the role of a lifetime. While the Mahabharat is popularly known for its mythological tales and cultural influence, many of life's lessons are also derived from the Mahabharat but most often from its men. Telling it with this fresh and new perspective will not only be interesting but also very significant," Deepika said.

Mahabharat will be made in a series of parts with the first one slated to release in Diwali 2021.

Deepika will next be seen opposite Ranveer in his upcoming sports-drama 83. She will be essaying the role of Romi Bhatia wife of cricket stalwart Kapil Dev. The movie will be released on April 10, 2020. She will also be headlining Shakun Batra's next along with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday.
