Kolkata: Actor turned director Anindya Banerjee who is also a member of Bhartiya Janta Party has recently extended support to Trinamool MP Mimi Chakraborty as her latest commercial faced a lot of backlash from a section of people.
The Bengali actor-cum-Member of Parliament Mimi was recently featured in a hair-oil advertisement alongside Vidya Balan.
In the video, Mimi introduces herself as a "public representative," which obviously did not go down well with the members of the opposition party. While some raised questions on Mimi's identity used in the commercial, others criticized the actor for her irresponsible act.
Anindya said: "I have seen most people in my party reacting too much. But I will not. Mimi is an actress. Why are we assuming that she knows everything? Many senior leaders make this mistake too. If politics indulge in attack only, then it is quite difficult."

The actor also stated: "I am against Trinamool. I do not consider Trinamool Congress as a party. Still, I will not criticize Mimi."
He said if a person does something without knowing it, he or she should be believed and it must be seen that they don't make such mistakes in future.
Earlier, Asansol BJP MP Babul Supriya, who is also a known face in Bengali entertainment industry, heavily criticised Mimi.
Hooghly's BJP MP and actor Locket Chatterjee said: "Maybe Mimi is not aware of the restrictions an MP has to follow. She may have done so without knowing. However, she should know these rules."
