Actor Karan Oberoi granted bail over rape charges

In its order, the court has observed that the woman had orchestrated the attack on herself. Prima facie it appeared that a second FIR has been filed against Oberoi to deny him bail. The court ordered the police to take appropriate action against the woman.

Mumbai: Television actor Karan Oberoi has been granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Friday. The actor had earlier been sent to jail custody over rape and extortion charges. After a period of one month, the actor-cum-singer has finally been granted bail.

Karan was accused of rape and further blackmailing the victim. The charges were levelled against the actor by a tantrik-cum-healer. Karan's bail plea was presented before the high court on Thursday.

After going through papers, Justice Revati Mohite-Dere came down heavily on the police and the victim over the matter. The actor has finally been granted bail of Rs. 50,000.

If a news source is to be believed, the court has observed that the woman had orchestrated the attack on herself. Prima facie it appeared that a second FIR has been filed against Oberoi to deny him bail.

The court in its order directed the police to take appropriate action against the woman.

In an FIR lodged on May 4, the victim had alleged that Oberoi had raped her in 2017 on the pretext of marriage, filmed the act and then extorted money from her under the threat of making the video go viral.

As per the complaint lodged by the 34-year-old, Oberoi was arrested and sent to police custody on May 6.
