BERLIN, Germany: How many times have you ruined your food because you set your oven to the wrong temperature?

Well, now Miele has introduced a feature which lets your oven do the thinking for you. The German brand launched its Smart Food ID at the annual IFA in Berlin. The tech enables a camera in the oven, along with Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, to identify the food

"The camera identifies based on Artificial Intelligence, which dish is being placed in the oven. It then shows the dish on the oven display. All you have to do then is confirm the dish that it was identifying and the cooking starts automatically with the right programme and the perfect results," explains Dr Axel Kniehl, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at Miele.

He adds that the launch of Smart Food ID comes with 20 recipes initially but that more will be continuously added.

  • At a time when we're spending more time at home, and potentially turning more to convenience food, Kniehl also introduced Miele's Smart Brown Control: "an intelligent programme for the perfect pizza".
  • According to Kniehl an oven camera monitors how the pizza browns, then let you know when it's done to perfection.
  • In what's been a turbulent year for most people, Miele's message is "When the world gets better, let's build a better world."

With that in mind it introduced its super-fast washing machine programmes which use exceptionally low energy, such as Power Wash:

"Power wash makes it possible to wash small loads with the same efficient use of energy as you'd find with a full drum. Another example is our single wash programme which makes it possible to wash individual items of laundry in an environmentally way. And another one is TwinDos, our unique automatic dispensing system which uses as much as 30 per cent less detergent, 30 per cent less detergent, as proven by independent laboratory tests," explains Dr Reinhard Zinkann, Executive Director and Co-Proprietor of Miele.

Zinkann also introduced Miele's innovative Wash to Dry feature, in which the washing machine communicated with the tumble dryer via WiFi.

"The washing machine transmits the wash programme that is currently in use to the tumble dryer via WiFi. The tumble dryer then selects an appropriate drying programme," says Zinkann. "Just imagine that washing machines and tumble dryers can virtually talk to each other."
