A 26-year-old Arunachal man of the Yubi tribe carried his ailing mother on his shoulders and travelled 200 km to a hospital with the help of local villagers of Gandhigram. Sayede carried his mother to a hospital in Mayu town with the help of the villagers. The particular hospital is located 157 kilometres away from Vijaynagar. The mother had unfortunately received severe electric shock in 2017 for which, she was undergoing treatment. Since August her condition had been deteriorating. The villagers began their journey on August 31 and reached Mayu in the evening on September 4. The villagers informed that there is no road connecting Gandhigram with the town and one has to cross the hills, river and jungle to reach it. The foundation of a 157-km road, to connect Mayu with Vijaynagar under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was laid in February 2013. This road was the then longest PMGSY road in the country, however, only 15 kilometres of the road has reportedly been completed since.
