With the floodwater inundating 75 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park, the authorities in Assam have implemented a time card system on National Highway 37 that bifurcates the park. The move was initiated to check and restrain the speed limit of the vehicles which pass through the NH 37 so that no animal is hit by speeding vehicles. With the floodwaters entering several areas of the park, the animals including the deers, one-horned rhinos, and others have started to migrate to the hills of Karbi Anglong to take shelter from the floods. The animals have to cross the NH 37 to reach the higher grounds of Karbi Anglong. Considering the flood situation at Kaziranga National Park, till significant decrease in a flood situation, all the heavy vehicles including good carriage vehicles were also diverted through different routes from Monday, officials said.
