Russia's saltiest lake reserves to last another 4,000 years

Considered one of the saltiest lakes on the planet, Lake Baskunchak lies 21 metres below sea level. Salt mining at the lake started in the eighth century as it was a trading spot along the Silk Road. Now up to 3 million tones of salt are mined here every year.
