Women offer special prayers to Asiri Amman at Srikakulam in AP

Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh): Women of Laveru Mandal in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh celebrate the Asiri Amman Jathra in a grand fashion. It is celebrated on the first Tuesday after Sankranti every year. This custom is age-old and has been going on for many years. Every girl in the village performs special prayers at the temple of the village goddess Asiritalli Amman. After finishing each girl ties a bunch of bananas. About 400 banana bunches are tied in the temple premises during the festival and are distributed to every house in the village the next day.
