New York: Nissan e.Dams driver Sebastien Buemi won an incident-packed first race of the New York City E-Prix on Saturday - but championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne's hopes of clinching the title disappeared after he crashed on the last lap. Vergne could have been back-to-back champion until he was involved in an incident with Felipe Massa which saw his DS Techeetah car badly damaged. Swiss driver Buemi - now in championship contention - won from Mitch Evans in the Jaguar and BMW-Andretti's Antonio Felix Da Costa in third. Audi Sport's Lucas Di Grassi closed the gap on Vergne to 26 points in the championship after finishing fifth. The championship now comes down to the final race in New York on Sunday.
