Director Chaitanya Tamhane earned global acclaim for his debut feature film Court, six years ago. The film travelled across film festivals, won a National Award and was India's official entry to the Oscars that year. Now, Chaitanya is back with his second feature, the Marathi film The Disciple, which has been selected in the main competition at the Venice International Film Festival. As with his 2014 debut feature, which takes a swipe at the Indian legal system through the trial of an aging folk singer, The Disciple reflects his concerns about society.
