Riz Ahmed was completely out of his comfort zone when filming drama Sound of Metal, about an American punk-metal drummer whose life is upended when he abruptly loses his hearing while on tour. The British actor and rapper had to learn American Sign Language and the drums for his role of Ruben Stone - and the performance has earned him an Oscar nomination.
