Kedarnath Dham Yatra comes to a halt due to avalanche

Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand): Pilgrims undertaking Char Dham Yatra on foot were asked by the administration to halt their onward journey.  They were asked to resume pilgrimage after the opening of the route. The pedestrian route to Kedarnath shrine was again blocked on Thursday at Bhairav ​​due to a huge chunk of snow (glacier) coming on the pathway.  

Pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Dham on foot were asked to stay at safe places. District Disaster Management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar, "A huge chunk of snow came crashing down near   Bhairav and Kuber Glacier a few days ago also. The trekkers' route to Kedarnath was closed." Rudraprayag DM Mayur Dixit, said, "Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF and other rescuing teams as well policemen were pressed into service for removing snow from both the glaciers. But again on Thursday, the route was blocked at Bhairav glacier." The DM made an appeal to pilgrims traveling on foot to Kedarnath Dham, not to undertake the Kedarnath Yatra until the route was completely cleared for movement.
