The Eiffel Tower in Paris went dark at midnight on Wednesday to mourn those who lost their lives in the Beirut port explosion. The blast on Tuesday killed at least 135 people and injured thousands more. Hundreds of thousands of Beirut residents have been left homeless. French President Emmanuel Macron announced he would fly to the shattered Lebanese capital, and two planeloads of French rescue workers and aid were on their way to the scene of the disaster.
