German officials said that the economic damage from the catastrophic flooding in the country would be immense. Hundreds of buildings were damaged by the floods, which claimed at least 125 lives. The devastating impact of the floodwaters was caught on camera on Wednesday near Kreuzberg in Rhineland-Palatinate state. Alex Volkov was on his way to work in Frankfurt when the flooding forced him off the highway. He ended up on a viaduct near Kreuzberg from where he filmed debris and rubbish being carried along the Ahr, normally a small stream, but now a raging torrent. To the shock and surprise of everyone on the bridge, the top of a house became visible through the trees. The entire structure had been swept away by the powerful waters. As it floated down the Ahr, the house pushed into some mature trees, knocking them over, before getting stuck under the viaduct.
