Nazi commanders signed their surrender to Allied forces in a French schoolhouse 75 years ago on May 7, ending World War II in Europe and the Holocaust. The day came to be known as Victory in Europe or VE Day. Unlike the mass street celebrations that greeted this momentous news in 1945, surviving veterans are marking VE Day this year in coronavirus confinement, sharing memories with loved ones in private, instead of in the company of comrades on public parade.
