SinoPharm's shots are among China's leading contenders, already entering late-stage testing. SinoPharm's claim that 30 special volunteers rolled up their sleeves even before the company got permission for the initial human study raises ethical concerns among Western observers. China accounts for nearly half of the 18 potential vaccines in various stages of human testing around the world, the most of any country.
