As the 15-day curfew kicks in Mumbai wears a deserted look

Mumbai: The 15-day curfew in Maharashtra kicked in from 8 pm on Wednesday and is getting a good response from citizens in the state. Roads in Mumbai wore a completely deserted look with no vehicles or passersby seen on the city roads. While the number of corona-infected patients has surged on a daily basis in the second wave, more than 9,000 corona infected patients have tested positive in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country. To curb infections, the state government has imposed lockdown restrictions under Section 144. In this regard, police have been deployed at various places in Mumbai and action is being taken against those who leave their homes unnecessarily. Between March 2, 2020, and April 2021, the Mumbai Police registered cases against 60,195 accused for violating Section 188. Of these, 9,203 people are absconding. So far, 23,370 accused have been released on notice by the police, while 27,622 accused have been arrested and produced in court, after which they were granted bail. Mumbai Police have so far registered 28,332 cases in South, Central, East, West and North sections of Mumbai, including 6,582 from South Mumbai, 2,976 from Central Mumbai and 3,856 from East Mumbai, 4,004 from West Mumbai and 10,914 from North Mumbai. Due to the implementation of Section 144, even the Gateway of India is shut for tourists.
