In the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA Government has announced the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to provide a relief to the distressed farming community. As per the announcement made by the then Finance Minister Piyush Goyal in the Budget Speech on 1 February, farmers having less than 2 hectares of land would get Rs. 6,000 per annum in three instalments, to support input costs. Despite a series of measures announced by the Modi-led Government in the last five years to assuage farmers concerns, the agri-community in the country seems not happy.
To find out the reasons for the current crises in the agriculture sector in the country, ETV BHARAT spoke to senior business journalist R.N. Bhaskar.
In the interview, Bhaskar vouches for implementing Amul-like model for cultivators of vegetables and fruits. He also spoke on the impact of the ban on cow slaughter on farmers.
