We should give respect to doctors, their rights to treat a patient and should stop violence against the most dedicated workforce of our country.

This Year the theme of Doctor Day 2021 is- Building the Future with Family Doctors

History Of The Day:

Organized by the Indian Medical Association, National Doctor’s Day is dedicated to the efforts of all doctors and healthcare professionals who put the lives of others before their every day. IMA first celebrated National Doctor’s Day in 1991 in honor of West Bengal Chief Minister Dr. BC Roy to recognize his contribution to serving humanity.

Significance of National Doctors Day & Doctors Role During Pandemic:

Doctors are known to be practicing a ‘noble profession’. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us once again the selfless and exceptional hard work that medical professionals have been providing people in these trying times. Many doctors have had 16 hours and longer shifts at a stretch to look after a huge number of incoming patients. Various other doctors have been looking after COVID patients and isolating themselves from their own families to fight the pandemic.

Doctors form an essential part of an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have critical roles in diagnosis, containment, and treatment, and their commitment to treating despite increased personal risks is essential for a successful public health response. Frontline workers have been experiencing high work volume, personal risk, and societal pressure to meet extraordinary demands for healthcare. Despite this traditional public health ethics has paid little attention to the protection of the rights of doctors.
