Health Problems Associated With Male Genitals

Male Sexual health is a taboo subject like sexual health in our country. But As Dr. Rahul Reddy, Consultant Microsurgical Andrologist explained to us, if male genital infections or diseases are ignored for a long time, it can affect not only a person's sex life, but can lead to serious health problems.

Just like vaginal infections in females, penis infections too are common in men, but the only difference is that there is not much awareness amongst people regarding the infections in males. Usually, general infections or problems such as pain initially are not very harmful. However, if they are ignored, over time it can worsen and affect not only a person’s sex life but can also lead to a serious disease. ETV Bharat Sukhibhava spoke to Dr. Rahul Reddy, Consultant Microsurgical Andrologist, Hyderabad and he explained some of the most common problems associated with the male penis, its reasons, and how to prevent them.

Common Problems In Male Genitals

Dr. Reddy explains that some of the common penis problems faced by men include infection, pain, pimple, and swelling. But, if these problems are not catered to, they can take the form of a serious problem and heavily affect the sex life.

Here are some of the common problems of the genitals, faced by men.

Itching on the penis and its surrounding area

Usually, after having sexual intercourse, men face the problem of itching in the genitals. Many times in such a situation, red rashes too can be seen. This can be a type of infection. Dr. Rahul Reddy explained that this problem can occur as a result of not keeping the genital area clean before and after having sex. Not only men, but this problem can also affect the female counterpart. Therefore, along with maintaining cleanliness and proper hygiene, using a condom is strongly advised while having sexual intercourse.

Pain in the penis while urinating or after having an intercourse

Pain in the penis can be due to several reasons. It can happen as a result of an injury, hardcore sex, using medicines to increase sexual arousal, because of an infection, and sometimes even due to masturbating very hard. In such a case, avoid having sexual relations and masturbating for a while. Also, do not take any medicines without a doctor’s advice. Even if after this, there is no significant change in the pain, consult a doctor immediately.

Just like there are good and bad bacterias present in a woman's vagina, similarly, in men, a yeast called Candida Albicans is present in the penis. If proper cleanliness is not maintained or if one is careless, this can lead to infection. This infection is very common and can occur at any age. Therefore, apart from maintaining proper hygiene, it is important to always wear clean and comfortable undergarments.

Penis swelling

Swelling in the penis refers to swelling of its foreskin. This too is a common problem and can occur at any age. Lack of cleanliness and any kind of infection can be responsible for this condition.

Wart and rashes in the genital area

Warts, eruptions, pimples, or rashes on the skin of the penis and around is a common condition.

These eruptions are caused by the blockage of the oil glands in the skin pores. Usually, they get cured themselves within a week or two, but if that does not happen, contact a doctor immediately.

What Is The Main Cause Of Genital Problems?

Dr. Reddy explains that most of the problems in the male penis and the surrounding area occur as a result of a lack of cleanliness. Apart from improper personal hygiene, using public toilets and having unsafe sexual intercourse can also be other factors. To avoid these problems, it is important to keep the following points in mind:

  • Cleanliness should be taken care of. In the absence of hygiene, many diseases can occur in the male genitals, for example, warts, pimples, rashes, itching, redness, etc. Also, if such things are ignored, it can also provide harm to the inner part of the penis. Therefore, it is very important to wash the penis and surrounding area thoroughly with clean water while bathing, do not use soap on the inner part of the penis, and wear clean, loose, and comfortable underwear.
  • Using public toilets can also cause infections. Therefore, avoid using them, and even if you do, flush before and after usage. Clean the genitals thoroughly with clean water after urination and defecation.
  • Unprotected sex can cause certain problems. Therefore, it is important to use condoms while having sexual intercourse, both men and women must clean the genitals before and after having sex and try to use sexual wellness products.
  • Do not try to treat any genital-related problems in consultation with family members, relatives, or friends as they can be dangerous. If you witness anything unusual around that area, don't be shy and consult your doctor immediately.
