West Bengal: BJP calls for 12-hr bandh over custodial death of minor

The BJP has called a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal's Mallarpur area on Saturday following the custodial death of a teenager on Thursday. The Saffron party leaders have alleged that the police had beaten him to death as his parents were BJP supporters. Meanwhile, the deceased boy's father clarified he has been a TMC supporter and his son died by 'suicide'.

Mallarpur (West Bengal): The death of a 15-year-old boy in police custody in West Bengal's Birbhum district, prompted the BJP to call a 12-hour bandh in Mallarpur area on Saturday.

The police claimed the teenager was found hanging in the toilet of Mallarpur police station on Thursday night, while the BJP alleged that the law enforcers had beaten him to death as his parents were BJP supporters.

The teenager's father, however, said he is a TMC supporter and his son died by 'suicide'.

Earlier on Friday, irate locals attempted to storm the police station and pelted stones on officials when they tried to disperse them.

A senior police officer said that a magisterial probe has been ordered in the case and a medical board conducted the autopsy with adherence to the guidelines laid down by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
