New Delhi: Hitting out at the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal over the triple murder in Murshidabad, BJP Vice-President Baijayant Jay Panda on Thursday said there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat on the gruesome incident, where three members of a family, including an eight-year-old boy were murdered, Panda said that he was shocked by the incident.
"It is a known fact that there is a lot of political violence in West Bengal. Individuals associated with the RSS and BJP are attacked regularly. These incidents are not new, but with this incident, West Bengal has crossed the limit," he said.
Adding that there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state, Panda urged the Centre to intervene and investigate.
The BJP leader further added that it was also 'shocking', that the incident was not being condemned on a large scale.
"There is a need for introspection. Whenever such an incident happens, it is condemned, but only depending upon the victims' religion, caste, or the organisations they were associated with. This is not right. We should introspect and think why is this happening. Intellectuals should also think, why is there selective outrage," he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the bodies of Bondhu Gopal Pal, a 35-year-old primary school teacher, his wife Beauty and son Angan were found lying in a pool of blood inside their residence in Jiaganj area of West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
The BJP Vice-President also spoke about the Kashmir issue, saying that the Narendra Modi-led government's move to modify Article 370 is actually 'de-internationalising' the issue rather than internationalising it.
"Accusations against India on human rights violations are not only false, but also a joke. The Kashmir issue was getting internationalised for the past seven decades. Due to some mistakes the Indian government made in 1948, the issue got internationalised. But the truth is, it is a domestic issue, and finally after seven decades, based on the steps taken by the Modi government, the issue is getting de-internationalised," he said.
