Kolkata: A 47-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Bakultala area of Parnasree Palli on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Shampa Chakraborty was found wrapped up, head-to-toe, in a cloth, fastened with a nylon rope.
The incident came to light after the locals noticed the body lying in front of an apartment and informed the police about the same. A trolley was also found along with the body.
Shampa reportedly lived in the same apartment along with her husband Bhopal Chakraborty, who works as a security guard in a private company. The latter has been missing since the incident and the flat has been locked.
"We broke open the door and recovered some objects, which we suspect to be weapons of crime. Also, the articles used to tie the body was probably taken from the flat itself," a police officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was murdered with a sharp weapon, evident from the deep wound on her neck, by slitting her throat.
Three persons were detained for questioning. When the police talked to neighbours, they told them that there was a big quarrel in the family on Saturday night.
One woman in the neighbourhood said she had seen a woman and a man carrying something with them that night. Suspecting them to be robbers, she also made a video of their movement near the apartment's garage.
The police are considering this video as an important piece of evidence.
The body has been sent to Vidyasagar State General Hospital for post mortem and further investigation is underway.
