Residents of Hanspukuria village (in Tehatta block of West Bengal's Nadia district), both young and old, turned teary-eyed as Biswas came home in a coffin wrapped in tricolour, instead of his usual cheerful demeanour.

Not only the locals but people from in and around his village also came to pay tributes to Biswas, who is one among the 49 CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack, at the very playground where he used to hone his sporting skills since his childhood.

The CRPF and personnel from other central forces and state police brought Biswas's body in a slow march, in the presence of thousands of grief-stricken locals, many of whom had been waiting patiently for hours, and was buried with full state honours.

"He had promised to bring bat and football for the kids. But little did we know he would come to us in this state," lamented a local resident.

With the bugle playing the last post, the men in uniform accorded Biswas a guard of honour and then reversed their arms for a gun salute.
