Teesta, Dipan's 'rainbow' wedding; WB's first transgender couple tie knot

Teesta and Dipan became the first transgender couple to get married from West Bengal's Kolkata. The duo held a grand 'rainbow' wedding reception on Monday and tied the knot in a typical Bengali fashion.

Kolkata (West Bengal): The 'rainbow' wedding reception of Teesta - the bride- and Dipan - the groom- in West Bengal's Kolkata was a grand Bengali affair, with all the glitz and glamour attached to it. A hundred guests, comprising close friends and relatives, were invited. The bride wore a Benarasi sari and the groom looked dapper in kurta and dhoti.

The duo tied the knot and became the first transgender couple of Kolkata in West Bengal.

Teesta was born as a male bearing the name Sushanta, after struggling for several years to come out of the closet, she finally underwent a sex reassignment surgery in 2004.

She met Dipan - a transgender himself who was born as a girl named Dipanwita- while she was working in Kolkata and they both bonded with each other. The bonding soon turned into a love affair and they both finally decided to get hitched.

Their journey, however, was not easy at all.

"I don't fear to accept the fact that many of my neighbours and relatives took this (changing her gender) in a negative way. They even attacked my family, ethically and socially, it is in this context that this wedding is very important," said Teesta.

Dipan, hopes that their marriage would send out a message to the society, "The only message that I want to send out through this marriage is that...we are as normal as you all..everything is possible among our community as well... we can also fall in love...we are also part of the society."

Intro:লিঙ্গ রুপান্তর করা নারী ও পুরুষের বিয়ে হয়ে এক নজির সৃষ্টি করলো তিস্তা আর দীপন। Body:সমাজের কাছে এরা অনেকটাই ব্রাত্য বলেই এরা মনে করতো। কিন্তু এরাও যে সমাজেরই একটা অঙ্গ, এরাও যে মানুষ তা প্রমান করলো আগরপাড়া মহাজাতি নগর এর তিস্তা দাস এবং গড়িয়ার দীপন চক্রবর্তী। এরা দুজনেই লিঙ্গ রুপান্তর করা নারী ও পুরুষ। তিস্তা জন্মসূত্রে পুরুষ সুশান্ত দাস। কিন্তু সুশান্ত পুরুষ হলেও নারীসুলভ আচরনের জন্য সমাজে নানারকম লাঞ্ছনা-গঞ্জনার শিকার হতে হতো তাই 2004 সালে সুশান্ত লিঙ্গ রুপান্তর এর মাধ্যমে নারী রূপে নিজেকে পরিবর্তন করে তিস্তা দাস হয়ে ওঠা। অন্যদিকে জন্মসূত্রে নারীরূপী দীপান্বিতা চক্রবর্তী এই একই কারণে লিঙ্গ পরিবর্তন করে দীপন চক্রবর্তী থেকে পরিবর্তিত হয়। এরা দুজনেই নিজেদের কর্মসূত্রে প্রথমে বন্ধুত্ব ও পরে কখন যে তাদের সেই বন্ধুত্ব প্রেমে পরিণত হয়েছে তা তারা কেউই বুঝে উঠতে পারেনি। এরপর এই প্রেম ভালোবাসাকেও সমাজের কাছ থেকে অনেক লাঞ্ছনা-গঞ্জনার শিকার হতে হয়েছে। সেই সমস্ত ঝড়-ঝাপটা উপেক্ষা করে দুই পরিবারের সম্মতিতে শেষ পর্যন্ত বিয়ে করার সিদ্ধান্ত। আর তাদের এই সিদ্ধান্ত অত্যন্ত নজিরবিহীন ঘটনা বলেই মনে করা হচ্ছে। কারণ দুজনেই লিঙ্গ রুপান্তর করে সাত পাকে বাঁধা পড়া অত্যন্ত বিরলতম ঘটনা এবং রাজ্যে প্রথম এই ঘটনা এবং এরাজ্যে এই প্রথম। তারা দুজনেই নিজেদের পছন্দের মানুষকে জীবনসঙ্গী হিসেবে পেয়ে অত্যন্ত খুশি।তাদের মুখে একটাই কথা এই সমাজ তাদের মতন মানুষেরা যারা সমাজে ব্রাত্য, সেই সমাজকে একটাই বার্তা দিতেই এই সিদ্ধান্ত। তাদের বক্তব্য সবার উপরে মানুষ সত্য, তাহার উপরে নাই।আর এই বার্তা নিয়েই সোমবার সন্ধ্যে ছটা কুড়ি লগ্নে তাদের বিবাহ সম্পন্ন হয়। অত্যন্ত জাঁকজমক করে আত্মীয় পরিজনদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে তাদের চার হাত এক হল। তাদের দাম্পত্য জীবন সুখী হোক এই কামনাই এখন সকলের।Conclusion:আগামী দিনে তাদের মতন মানুষেরা তাদেরই মতো পথ অনুসরণ করুক এটাই নবদম্পতির বার্তা।
