Rs 26.35 cr unaccounted cash seized in Bengal so far: EC

Unaccounted cash of Rs 26.35 crores has been seized so far in West Bengal. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Basu said this after a meeting with electoral officers of the South 24 Parganas district to review their preparedness for the upcoming polls.

Kolkata: The Election Commission on Tuesday said about Rs 26.35 crore of unaccounted cash has been seized so far, besides recovery of over 11.28 lakh liter of liquor in West Bengal.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Basu told reporters that the commission received about 5,658 complaints on its portals till Tuesday while 99 of them are still awaiting action by enforcement agencies, he said.

The grievances were registered on its CVIGIL app, Basu said adding that poll panel has addressed most of the complaints and around 33 of them are in the process of disposal, Basu said.

According to him, commission has taken all possible measures to ensure free and fair elections in Jalpaiguri (SC), Darjeeling and Raiganj constituencies during the second phase in West Bengal.

The CEO office on Tuesday held a meeting with electoral officers of the South 24 Pargana district to review their preparedness for the upcoming polls.
