Purulia court sentences two to death in child murder case

Purulia district judge Ramesh Kumar announced death punishment in a four-year-old case in which a three-year-old girl child was murdered by piercing needles in her body.

Purulia: Purulia district judge Ramesh Kumar on Tuesday announced capital punishment to two convicts Sanatan Thakur and Mangala Goswami in connection with a three-year-old child murder case in West Bengal Purulia district in 2017. The court has also imposed a financial penalty of Rs 50,000 on each of them. During the hearing, both convicts claimed to be innocent.

While hearing on Monday, the public prosecutor, Anwar Ali had demanded capital punishment for the convicts.

In July 2017, police had rescued a three-year-old child with several needles on her body from Nadayara village in the district. Later she was admitted to a hospital where she succumbed to death. Police had arrested the deceased mother and a man who was staying with them in connection with the case. The child's mother Mangala Goswami and her partner Sanatan Thakur, a retired home guard were convicted for murdering the girl child by piercing needles in her body.
