20-year-old Raja Chowdhury, a miscreant was allegedly killed during a gun battle in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Kolkata: The body of a miscreant, who was allegedly shot during a gun battle was found at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Friday. An illegal firearm was also found near his body. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Raja Chowdhury.

His family members alleged that some anti-social elements came in motorcycles near their residence at around 11 PM on Thursday and fired at him. Subsequently, they rushed away after killing him.

According to the reports, some eyewitnesses who were present at the spot have named the accused to the police, but no arrest has been made so far.

The family members alleged that the local police resorted to baton charging when they went to lodge an FIR. Some persons were injured in the process.

Police sources said that it is yet to be clear whether this was a case of murder or suicide. The local police have reached the spot for the probe and they are examining CCTV footage.

Police said that the deceased was currently on parole as he had hobnobbed with some anti-social elements in the recent past.
