Discord in West Bengal congress regarding ties with left

Ahead of the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, Rahul Gandhi over a virtual meeting directed the state's Congress leadership to build closer ties with the Left Front. However many among the senior leader are disgruntled and are not favouring an alliance with the Left Front.

Kolkata (West Bengal): Inspite of clear instructions from Rahul Gandhi, some leaders of West Bengal congress are not keen on tying up with the left front ahead of the assembly elections in 2021. Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi held a lengthy virtual meeting with the state's Congress leadership.

In addition to building closer ties with the Left Front, Rahul Gandhi also directed the Congress to strengthen the organisation.

'No compromise can be made with the organisation of the party', he said.

Rahul Gandhi conveyed the message of standing up against the Trinamool and BJP in the forthcoming assembly elections. He said the state would be better off if Congress candidates got priority. It was decided in the meeting that Adhir Chowdhury will follow Rahul Gandhi's instructions to form an alliance with the Left Front.

According to the state congress leaders, Rahul enquired about the seat-sharing deal between the two parties. During the meeting, the entire state Congress leadership favoured the party's alliance with the Left, but opinions of senior members differed over seat-sharing.
