Kolkata: The people of Bhabanipur have foiled all the conspiracies of the opposition parties, said a highly satisfied West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, after the results of the by-polls indicated that she was ahead from each and every ward of the assembly constituency. Besides thanking the voters of Bhabanipur, she has also thanked the people of the country for her victory.

Mamata Banerjee has won in the by-elections with a margin of 58,832 votes, against her winning margin of around 54,000 votes in the 2011 by-elections in the same constituency. In the 2016 West Bengal assembly elections, her margin from Bhabanipur declined to around 25,000 votes. In the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress candidate, Sobhondeb Chattopadhay won by a margin of 28,000 votes.

But her margin this time has surpassed all previous records which made the chief minister highly satisfied. After her victory by a huge margin was assured, she came out of her residence. “The number of voters is lesser in Bhabanipur and this time the percentage of votes polled was much less. This had always been the trend of Bhabanipur. We did not trail from any ward. This was our challenge,” she said.

To recall, Trinamool Congress was trailing from two wards in the last elections this year. The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the increase of her popularity as far as the polling statistics are concerned.

She also claimed that both Bengali and non- Bengali residents voted for her. “The geographic area of Bhabanipur is small. But its political radius is vast. The opposition parties have coined enough conspiracies. The people of Bhabanipur had given a fitting reply to them,” she said.
