New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who is known for her strident opposition to various policies of the BJP government, on Friday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann ki Baat calling the radio telecast as 'monkey baat' and said she doesn't listen to PM's programme aired on radio.
In a Tweet, she reacted angrily to a report which claimed that 36 nursing students were punished for not listening to Mann ki baat. As soon as the news broke causing an uproar, Maitra meddled in the controversy. She wrote, "I have not heard monkey talk. Not once. Never. Will I be punished too? I won't be allowed to leave the house for a week? It's really worrying now."
The report claimed that on April 30, when the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Man Ki Baat was about to be aired, students of the National Institute of Nursing Education at PGIMER, Chandigarh, were expected to listen to the programme. "Mann Ki Baat will go on air on April 30 in Theater-1," the authorities said in a notice. They also maintained that listening to the 100th episode is mandatory for first and third-year nursing students.
Ignoring the instruction, 36 students of the Central Government Nursing Institute did not go to the respective venue to listen to the 100th episode of Maan Ki Baat. On May 3, the authorities issued an order stating that 28 third-year students and 8 first-year students cannot step outside the hostel for a week. The incident came to light on Thursday. "Nursing students who have not listened to the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Man Ki Baat are being banned from going out of the hostel," PGIMER said in a statement.
