Kolkata Police foil forgery bid of Jamtara gang, 16 arrested

Kolkata Police have foiled a forgery bid in the city by the infamous Jamtara Gang, arresting 16 members of the gang. Fake bank passbooks, laptops, mobile sim cards and several other documents were seized from the accused.

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has foiled a forgery attempt in the city by the infamous Jamtara Gang, a cybercrime gang based in Jharkhand’s Jamtara. Tipped by their sources, the sleuths of the detective department (DD) of Kolkata police raided a spot where the members of the Jamtara Gang were plotting a major forgery in the city. A total of 16 members of the gang were arrested.

The arrested gang members have been identified as Pradip Mandal, Ritesh Mandal, Vineet Mandal, Kamal Mandal, Chotelal Mandal, Gyansan Mandal, Rajesh Mandal, Samsur Mandal, Umesh, Bikaram Mandal, Mainul Mandal, Jitran Mandal, Dhamendra Kumar Mandal, Joydeep Mandal, Dilip Mandal and Arun Mandal.

They hail from different places in Jharkhand like Giridih and Dhanbad. Fake bank passbooks, laptops, mobile sim cards and several other documents were seized from the accused.

Speaking on the issue, the joint commissioner (crime), Murlidhar Sharma said that the raid was mainly conducted by the sleuths of anti-rowdy squad and bank forgery prevention squad.

"They were mainly operating from their hideout in different places of the city like Garihat, Chandni Chowk and Jadavpur. The interrogation process is on," he said.
