Kolkata: The Union Health Ministry has earmarked 12 out of 23 districts of the state as COVID-19 hotspots and has categorised them as under the Red Zone.
According to the ministry and West Bengal government officials, the most vulnerable districts are Kolkata, Howrah, East Medinipur and North 24 Parganas. The virus could also spread rapidly in eight other districts of the state.
Among the 47 districts categorised as clusters and are prone to COVID-19 spread, the districts of Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling are in North Bengal.
The districts of Hooghly, Nadia, Paschim Bardhaman, South 24 Parganas and Paschim Medinipur are in the southern part of the state.
The ministry has already said special teams will be deployed to monitor the hotspots and adjoining areas and members of the teams will be knocking every door within the hotspot and collecting data. The state government will also be required to submit a detailed report to the Centre on the progress of the virus in the hotspots.
