Income Tax issues notice to TMC leader Anubrata Mandal

The Income Tax department has served notice to Anubarata Mandal and four of his relatives. Anubrata Mandal is the TMC Birbhum district president and a party heavyweight.

Kolkata: The assembly constituencies in the Birbhum district of West Bengal are going for polls in the eighth phase on April 29, 2021. Just before that a fresh round of tussle is brewing between the ruling parties at the centre and the state. The Income Tax department has served notice to Anubarata Mandal and four of his relatives. Anubrata Mandal is the TMC Birbhum district president and a party heavyweight. Highly placed sources from the Income Tax department have also confirmed the news.

However, there has been no official statement either from the Income Tax department or from Anubrata Mandal on this issue. Sources have also revealed the notice is related to the disproportionate property to income ratio applicable for Mandal and four of his relatives. Those served with the notices have been asked to reply within a week.

However, the development has created ripples in the political circles of the state and questions are being raised on the timing of this development, just before the polls in Birbhum district.

Earlier, senior BJP leaders had raised questions on the wealth and property of TMC's Anubrata Mandal in each of their Birbhum rallies. Recently BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari came to attend a rally at Ilambajar in the Birbhum district. There, he also raised the same allegations against Mandal.
