Kolkata: Kolkata Police and Special Task Force have arrested a drug peddler and seized heroin worth rupees 20 Crore. The drug peddler, who lives in Malda, was arrested when he came to Kolkata to traffic the drugs. Police suspect that there is a connection with an international racket which is under investigation.
According to STF, Halim Sheikh (40) was arrested from Hare street police station, near Esplanade, yesterday evening. After searching, the police recovered 3 kg 749 gms of heroin from the accused. According to the Kolkata Police Special Task Force, the valuation of the heroin is 20 Crore. After primary interrogation, the police came to know that the heroin has been brought here to be handed over to drug dealers of Kolkata and that was going to happen in Esplanade area, but police arrested the accused before he could make the deal.

The police suspect that the heroin was brought through the Bangladesh border, and the quality of heroin points towards a Myanmar origin. Police are interrogating Halim to gather as much information as possible.
The police are hopeful that a big drug racket will be exposed through this interrogation. STF will take Halim to Banksal court today and will appeal for police custody.
