Freedom of press attacked in Bengal during Nabanno Chalo march

An attempt has been made by INTTUC workers to numb media while capturing BJP's Nabanno Chalo protest march. A group of INTTUC workers snatched the camera from an ETV Bharat reporter and harassed him for shooting the conflict between BJP and TMC near Palsit toll plaza in West Bengal.

Kolkata (West Bengal): Following Bengal BJP's 'Nabanno Chalo' protest rally against Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, law and order situation was worsening across the state on Thursday.

While shooting BJP's protest march, ETV Bharat reporter was allegedly attacked and harassed by Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) workers.

"A group of INTTUC workers was attacked and snatched my camera. TMC has placed an empty truck on road to prevent BJP's rally, following that ruckus took place in the area of Palsit. While going to capture the incident, they threatened me," said the reporter.

The "Nabanna Abhiyan" has been called by the BJP Yuva Morcha, the youth arm of the party on Thursday against the alleged killing of its party workers in the state.

The protest march started at 12 noon from four different points -- state BJP's headquarters on the Central Avenue, Hastings, Howrah Maidan and Santragachi.

The BJP leadership in the state has claimed that the march would comprise over a few lakhs of saffron supporters. People were expected to arrive from various districts and assemble at the four starting points.

However, BJP workers alleged that on their way to the starting point of the protest march, the administration along with the TMC workers stopped their vehicles led to a huge traffic jam in Palsit.

ETV Bharat's reporter tried to capture the incident but was reportedly prevented by the ruling party in West Bengal.
