Explosives seized from truck in Bengal, one held

West Bengal police recovered 250 packets of gelatin sticks and 229 bags of ammonium nitrate from a truck at Beliator in Bankura district. The truck was on its way from Telangana.

Kolkata/Bankura: The West Bengal CID on Sunday intercepted a truck at Beliator in Bankura district and seized a large amount of explosive material stored inside.

A senior officer of West Bengal police said around 250 packets of gelatin sticks and 229 bags of ammonium nitrate were recovered from the truck that came from Telangana.

The driver of the truck has been arrested, he said.

The officer said the driver is being interrogated to ascertain if the consignment was meant for a stone quarry located in the district.

Lok Sabha elections are due in Birbhum in the fourth phase on April 29 and in the sixth phase on May 12.
