Kolkata: The outbreak of Covid-19 and the demand for oxygen and ventilators had inspired a scientist to invent the 'pocket ventilator'.
Dr Ramendra Lal Mukherjee, an academician, came up with the life-saving solution while he was down with the Covid-19 infection. During critical situations, patients can grab the machine till full medical support arrives and the device is to be available at an affordable price.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Mukherjee said he was found to be COVID-19 positive, which prompted him to invent the pocket ventilator. “My oxygen saturation level came down as low as 88 and I was having severe breathing problems. Fortunately, I came out of the crisis. But then I felt that I should do something to help the people,” he said.

“After I finalized the design, the prototype of the design was ready in 20 days. The device has two units. One unit is that of the battery and the other unit is that of the ventilator which will be attached to the mask. At the press of a button the ventilator will start working. This will be beneficial for the COVID-19 affected people, especially those having severe breathing problems,” he said.
Dr Mukherjee has applied for a patent for his invention. He is an electronic engineer and he has been involved in innovations for the welfare of common people.
