Centre hints at disciplinary action against Bandopadhyay

The Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) has sent a strongly- worded letter to Alapan Bandopadhyay hinting that disciplinary action might be taken against him under Section 8 of the Service Rules.

Kolkata: The Indian government on Monday hinted that it would take strong disciplinary actions against the former West Bengal chief secretary and current chief advisor to the state government, Alapan Bandopadhyay on charges of breach of discipline. The information available from the government sources said that as per the memorandum forwarded to the state government strong disciplinary action might be taken against Bandopadhyay under Section 8 of the Service Rules, 1969. In that case, the former chief secretary might face difficulty in getting his retirement dues including pension.

The letter served to him also hinted at disciplinary action on the grounds of misbehaviour and misconduct. However, Bandopadhyay was given a chance to put forward his point of view within the next one month and if necessary he can personally present the case after coming to New Delhi. However, as per the letter, if he does not give any answer within a month, the Centre will take disciplinary action against him without further notice.

Now it is to be seen what action does Bandopadhyay takes and how the state government helps him on this count. So far, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has not reacted on this matter. Trinamool Congress spokesman, Kunal Ghosh said that since this is an administrative matter, only the Chief Minister will speak on this issue shortly.
