Kolkata: Cracks in the West Bengal BJP are becoming evident in the last few months, as another sitting BJP legislator from Bishnupur assembly constituency, Tanmay Ghosh, joined Trinamool Congress. He officially joined BJP at Trinamool Bhavan on Monday after the state education minister, Bratya Basu handed over the Trinamool Congress flag.
"BJP is anti- Bengal and anti- Bengali. So I joined Trinamool Congress to protest against this stand of the saffron camp," Ghosh said soon after joining Trinamool Congress. He also said that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the Union Minister, Amit Shah forcefully tried to capture power in West Bengal in the last elections.
"So, I resigned from the BJP in protest. Now, BJP is using the central agencies to terrorize everybody. They are trying to trample the democratic rights of the Bengalis. So I feel that there should be a united opposition against them," Ghosh said. He also said that everyone in the state should stand by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and strengthen her hands.
Speaking on the occasion, Bratya Basu said that the existing BJP legislators in West Bengal are not able to tolerate the dictatorship of the saffron camp leaders from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. "They are shifting to Trinamool Congress. Tomorrow, more BJP legislators will join us," he added. Ghosh is the second BJP legislator after Mukul Roy who joined Trinamool Congress since the 2021 state assembly elections results were announced.
